SONIC GROUND, 2026

'Sonic Ground' is an ongoing site responsive exploration of sound, perception and our relationship to the land, unfolding between the Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice at Wasing Estate.

Blending field recording, moving image, live instrumentation and sound composition gathered and developed across the landscape, the work explores the shifting threshold between body, environment and perception through a gradual journey across interconnected sensory states. Developed as both a live sonic work and an evolving film and soundscape, the project forms part of the wider research and development for 'Threshold'

Relationship to the Land

Emma first encountered Wasing Estate nearly two decades ago while attending a gathering on the land. What began as a chance discovery became an enduring relationship with both the place and the communities that gather there.

Over the years she has returned many times, attending a wide range of gatherings and, more recently, facilitating intimate sound journeys within the surrounding environment.

Through these experiences she has developed a deep connection with the land and with the people who come together within it. During several of these gatherings, wildlife from the surrounding landscape has joined nearby, sometimes adding their own voices to the sonic field. Experiences such as these sit at the heart of the work.

This work sits alongside Emma’s ongoing research project THRESHOLD, an evolving exploration of sound, sculpture, light and perception.

SONIC GROUND
will culminate in a live sonic presentation 'Solstice' held on the main glade stage at Wasing Estate on 20th June 2026.

The live work forms part of the wider Solstice programme and will unfold as an immersive sound-led journey developed in direct relationship with the surrounding landscape and atmosphere of the estate.

A standalone film and soundscape release developed through the project’s ongoing field recordings, moving image and sonic explorations will follow subsequently.
