THRESHOLD EXPERIENCES
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious,
it is the source of all true art and science"
Albert Einstein

SOUND AS MEDIUM
Sound has a remarkable ability to influence the way we perceive time, space and ourselves.
Working with voice, resonant acoustic instruments, vibrational sound, field recordings
and carefully composed sonic environments, each experience unfolds through layers of sound that continually evolve and respond.
Rather than directing the imagination, the work creates space for each participant's own experience to emerge naturally. Some describe vivid inner imagery, subtle shifts in perception or unexpected moments of clarity. Others simply experience a profound sense of stillness, presence or spaciousness.
There is no single experience to achieve.
Each encounter unfolds differently because every listener brings a different inner world.

THE THRESHOLD
A threshold is not a destination, but a point of transition.
It is the space between the familiar and the unknown, where certainty gives way to curiosity.
Listening becomes a way of exploring rather than understanding.
Each gathering invites a willingness to step beyond expectation.
Without a fixed narrative or predetermined outcome, the experience unfolds through trust, presence and openness, allowing each person to encounter something entirely their own.
THE EXPERIENCE
Most experiences unfold over approximately 90 minutes, allowing time for the body and mind to gradually settle into deeper states of listening and awareness. In festival settings, commissions or special events, shorter or adapted formats may be offered.
Participants are invited to settle in whatever way feels most comfortable, whether lying down or sitting quietly within the space.
Although the work is composed and performed live within the space,
it is not intended as a performance to watch.
Guests are gently invited to close their eyes, allowing listening to become their primary way of navigating the experience. As attention shifts away from the visual world, sound gradually becomes a guide rather than an explanation.
No prior experience is required.
There is nothing to achieve.
Simply listen, rest and allow the experience to unfold.
The listening is shared.
The experience is entirely personal.
What emerges beyond that doorway belongs to each individual.

“A person does not hear sound through his ears:
he hears sound through every pore of his body.”
Plato
AN ARTISTIC PRACTICE
Each Threshold Experience is conceived and composed as an extension of my wider artistic practice.
My work explores perception and the subtle conditions that shape our experience of ourselves and the world around us. Through observation, experimentation and participation, I create works that invite audiences to encounter those questions from within.
Maison Moemoea continues that enquiry through sound, using it as a primary medium for creating threshold experiences.
Listening is the doorway.
Where it leads is different for everyone.
What connects those who gather is a shared spirit of curiosity.
